Lyric Soprano Arielle Doneson, "the Apple in the Garden of Eden," according to David Sloane of The Times-Union, is creating a name for herself as a compelling performer of diverse vocal repertoire throughout the United States, Italy and France. Renowned for her velvety and warm vocal timbre, excellent musicality, fluency in multiple languages and brilliance onstage, Ms. Doneson has recently began exploring the full lyric soprano repertore after devoting the first years of her career to coloratura roles.
During the 2008 season, Arielle sang with the Opera New Jersey where she covered the role of Valencienne in The Merry Widow. She was also a featured soloist in several concerts throughout the Princeton Area.

And Laura Fisher of Mittenarts.com added: "it was Arielle Doneson who impressed me most. There she was,...with 3 big name stars on stage and she not only held her own, but shone just as brightly as the others...I truly enjoyed Doneson’s musical acrobatics...Doneson easily glided through the coloratura choruses while she was attended to by boytoys draping her with jewels, Marilyn-style."
Miss Doneson's recent credits also include Pamina in The Magic Flute and Susanna in Le Nozze of Figaro. For her New York debut, in the Off-Broadway opera Don Imbroglio, she portrayed the ingenue daughter of a big-time mafioso. "Doneson is a delight and uses her coluratura with aplomb...Arielle Doneson is a feisty delight" CurtainUp's Simon Saltzman.
Miss Doneson’s Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance was also critically acclaimed. "Highlights are Doneson's entrance, "Poor Wandr'ing One," and her duets..." commended Marcia Fulmer of eTruth; David Sloane of The Times-Union declared,"Stand back when Doneson lets loose—her voice is as powerful as she is angelic." But Pirates is just the latest in a growing number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, including Yum-Yum in The Mikado, Leila in Iolanthe, Julia in The Grand Duke and Cousin Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore.
Miss Doneson's supple voice lends itself to lighter genres as well. Her musical theatre roles include Anne in A Little Night Music, Kate in Kiss me, Kate, Hodel and Tzeitl in Fiddler on the Roof, Consuela in West Side Story, and Marge in the workshop recording of Ripley by Michael Arden. It was this music that she sang with Mr. Arden during his 2005 concert at Joe's Pub in New York.
Her Film credits include Blood Red, a historical documentary on the Discovery Channel, the documentary OperaWorks, and the Internet cult favorite, “Pirates vs. Ninjas”.
Miss Doneson, a native of Okemos, MI, received her training at The Interlochen Center for the Arts and the University of Michigan School of Music. There she received the Dumesnil merit award scholarship all four years and graduated with Highest Honors. She has spent extensive time in Europe perfecting her French and Italian--in fact performing the title role in Donizetti’s Rita throughout the Marche region of Italy. Miss Doneson currently divides her time between an apartment in New York City's West Village and a home in Ohio which she shares with her husband.
